A Guide To Grimsburgh
A guide to Grimsburg, The
jewel in the coast.
History
For centuries past, the estuary at the mouth of the river Hume has been fished
by the folk that lived upon its shores. Over time, the town of Grimsburg grew
along the southern bank of the river. The swampy hinterlands and coastal plains
nearby provided good agricultural lands for farmers, and the estuary was
sheltered from storms and easily defended.
The town is a center of trade in the local region, offering a variety of
specialist fish products, as well as the full range of crop and dairy related
products.
Grimsburg has seen many battles over the years, particularly in recent times
when it was invaded by Storveggans, led by an old enemy; Nathaniel the witch,
and occupied for over a year by enemy forces, until reclaimed by an army amassed
in the local town of Caistell. Aided by lord shard and led by heroes from
Grimsburg, the final battle culminated in the return of its former lord, Weelsby,
who had been executed by the invaders. The lord, now an undead creature of some
kind; routed the enemy and with a skeletal army drove them away.
The following years proved to be relatively quiet, until the undead lord Wheelsby's
intentions to reclaim the town as his own were made clear.
Eventually it was revealed that Nathaniel was now in league with Weelsby, taking
forces from Killinghome and dull to war against us on the battlefield.
Following this, the cult of the new dawn made themselves known to the locals, as
did the dark worshippers of the nameless one, with either terrorist action or
subtle conversions.
Population.
Grimsburg is home to over 1600 human inhabitants, mainly fishermen or wealthy
farmers, who own houses within the town’s walls. There is a significant
population of elves around the town and can often be seen within its gates.
Dwarves and halflings are rare, yet several do dwell in the area. All races may
move freely at Grimsburg.
The walls of Grimsburg.
The walls that surround the main part of the town were all but destroyed during
the battles versus the Storveggan invaders. They are renowned for their
effectiveness against attacks since their rebuilding in 998. The rest of
Grimsburg lies outside of the wall. A semi-permanent warren of tents and more
established wooden buildings, owned by those unable to afford the more expensive
buildings inside, or simply travelers and merchants seeking shelter and safety
near Grimsburg. Next
