The Grimsburgh Edict: 1st of drawing 996We the free people of the trade haven of Grimsburgh do declare the following to the people and government of Ithron, specifically those deposed rulers that seek to deprive us of our chance of independent growth. Our fears upon the arrival of those from across the sea were genuine, and for those in positions of wealth and power justified; however we , the people of Grimsburgh, have come to know the Storveggans, not as our enemy but as our friends. There is no denial of the extreme measures that they did undertake to open trade routes to Ithron, we regret the death of Longstorian monks; but against the myths put about about those who oppose them and us, there was no wholesale slaughter. perhaps 50 out of those who attempted resistance died. Most were either the rich bourgeoisie or part of a counter attack led by the fanatic for the law, Hvdris. The local militia largely retreated. If you do not believe us ask them your selves. More of Grimsburgh was burned than pillaged or killed and most of that by it's own citizens. Since their arrival the Storveggans have expanded our town and it's precincts. They offer us the first chance in Ithron for profitable trade with their kingdom. Storvegga and its people seek trade, not destruction. They are no evil specters; in fact their society is more equal than Ithrons, and now we rejoice in the simplest of fair systems. Slaves shall be as before, such is their lot. But for the impoverished masses of before there is now the Peydt; we are free peasants bonded only by our duty to protect our homes; we do not accept the word of our Earl however. No more corrupt mayors, despotic lords or ridiculous guild system constructed to hold us down. Under the guidance of our earl, in conference with the people of Storvegga, we will Expand and defend our town so that those with an eye towards mercantile activities , with those spoken of as their "enemy" may do so; at liberty, in safety. To this end the battle of tomb hill was hard fought by the Storveggans on our behalf. They have lost dome 500 brave men to give us a chance for something dignified. Now, knowing you of Ithron insist on more death, they bring more warriors to defend us; when in fact the wished to exchange men for families. Now we all work to fortify entrances to this town; that our safety shall aid our allies under the guidance of our earl - Collum of Grimsburgh. If Ithron will not seize this opportunity to profit itself, by trading with us and our friends then it must surely hate its own people more than it's real enemies, or is it still some lap-dog of Aixr. We have peace with Shard, and trade, and protection. In what way can you not see what they can? That this is benificial for all sides. Given piece we can even do what Ithrons lords and guilds would not, and save Humbleston from the ravages of Illudarius Morne and the mimes. Let it be known by you then in these simple words; that we are not victims of any invasion; that we are not being raped killed or tortured; that we don't buckle under the yoke of tyranny as we used to; WE ARE FREE. If we had piece, were you not at war with us, all for us the people you wish so hard to "liberate" would be perfection. We mean you no ill, but we swear we shall defend ourselves from your assault on our freedom at all cost. This is our chance, do not take it from us. THE CITIZENS, THE PEYDT OF GRIMSBURGH. |
